Reviews of the Top Ego Chainsaws

1. EGO Power+ CS1600

Besides being the most popular chainsaw under the brand, EGO Power+ CS1600 caught our team’s attention for its extensive run time and motor life. You may not know, but all these perks are thanks to the unit’s efficient brushless motor.

If you inspect closely, its 16-inch bar and chain are constructed with a low-kickback design that executes smoother cuts. It also weighs around 8.6 pounds, making it easier to handle than gas alternatives.

Despite running on batteries, its advanced technology can deliver power comparable to gas models of the same size and capacity.

2. EGO Power+ CS1804

Although a bit higher in price than other options, EGO Power+ CS1804 is the largest chainsaw in the brand’s product line. It also features LED work lights that are not in other models, making cutting operations in dim conditions much safer.

During our hands-on tests, its tool-free chain tensioning allowed us to tighten the chain without hassle. Unlike regular chainsaws, we didn’t need to disassemble any parts to perform the adjustment.

Its 18-inch bar and chain are also large enough to eliminate massive branches and stumps.

3. EGO Power+ CS1400

Despite being the smallest in the brand’s chainsaw catalog, EGO Power+ CS1400 also runs with an efficient brushless motor. Thanks to this, the unit can still deliver smooth cuts at 6800 RPM.

Besides the safety of being a battery-operated tool, we’re also impressed that this chainsaw includes a chain kickback brake. Through this, you can easily disengage the tool when you encounter any emergency.

Additionally, it carries a narrow-kerf chain, suitable for regular backyard tasks like pruning tree limbs. If you ask us, we recommend getting a chainsaw with this design if you’re a newbie because it reduces the chances of kickbacks.

4. EGO Power+ MPS1001

If you need to make overhead cuts, EGO Power+ MPS1001’s 16 feet reach should cater to your needs. During our search, we also noticed that this pole saw has a lighter construction than some of the options we tried for testing.

You can attach this power head kit to any EGO Power+ multi-head tool at your disposal. It will save you time and space because you can just swap the attachment you need or store them when not needed.

The bar and chain of this unit also remain lubricated as it has an auto-oiling system. It means that the operation won’t be interrupted as much.

Ego Chainsaw Buyer’s Guide

Engine Power

Most chainsaws under EGO Power+ run with the same Lithium batteries, so you can expect that they deliver about the same power range. Its battery system includes a Keep-Cool technology, which can deliver long-lasting power even in tough cutting conditions.

As for the battery duration, you can choose between 2.0 amp hour and 5.0 amp hour variations.

Performance

During our hands-on tests, each EGO chainsaw demonstrated excellent performance in different areas. For instance, the CS1400, being the smallest among the options, is also the easiest to handle due to its lightweight design. Conversely, the other models are heavier but boast longer lengths and faster running speeds.

Overall, you can rely on these chainsaws for regular cutting tasks in your backyard. They can manage to do excellent pruning and limbing. On top of that, longer models can even cut down large branches and process firewood.

On the downside, we don’t advise using these tools on heavy-duty applications like felling trees if you don’t want them to be damaged or cause any accidents.

Value for Money

EGO chainsaws are economical options to consider if you’re tackling simple backyard cutting tasks. Since these battery-powered tools don’t require housing motor engines, they’re made of lighter materials that cost less. However, that doesn’t mean these chainsaws are not durable.

As long as you use them correctly, these units can last a long time and justify their face value.
