Everything About Miter Saws

DEWALT DWS780 miter saw

The table saw may be the ultimate tool that says you have it all in your workshop, but we’ll have to give the title of being one of the most essential to the miter saw.

The miter saw is a handy equipment to have in your collection because of its great precision in cutting different kinds of materials. Unlike other more complicated types, it is easier to learn and safer to use even if you are just beginning to build your workshop and therefore lack extensive experience in woodwork and such, all the while saving you time in perfecting your desired output. The way it functions is easy to digest: basically, you saw materials through them by taking the blade on top of the piece that needs to be cut, which in turn is positioned on a surface.

Having control is one of the advantages of the miter. Its stationary blade, which is fixed just like you would with a bandsaw but not as limited in movement, is a plus to get the desired shape. The circular saw may achieve some of the same cuts as that of the miter saw, but it’s trickier and harder to perfect, especially with shorter cuts. Work is done faster too because you can just line up the pieces that need to be sawed. The length of the cut is limited to how long the blade is, though.

There are different miter saws you may have to be familiar with: there’s your standard miter saw, the compound miter saw, and then the sliding compound miter saw. The cost of each kind is different, with the standard versions usually the cheapest of the bunch because of lesser features. While they do the job, compound miter saws are better if you want to make more beyond the miter cut, such as bevel cuts. We have your back there—we’ll go through these so you can make an informed decision, and also review some of the best miter saws currently on the market.
