Accurate holes are essential in woodworking, especially since most are used for joinery—whether for dowels or mechanical fasteners. Standard twist drills tend to skid on the wood surface, making them unreliable for precise work. Brad point drills solve this by sinking their tip into the wood for positive contact, preventing skidding. This also makes them ideal for drilling into curved surfaces or at an angle.

Comparing Brad Point Drill Bits & Twist Drill Bits
Which drill bit is better for woodworking? Let’s compare the standard twist drill bit and the brad point drill bit.
I picked these up for some precise drilling, and they’ve been great so far. The cutting edges are sharp, and they produce clean holes with well-defined edges. I like how easily they bite into the wood without requiring much pressure. They’re well-machined and feel durable, making them a good investment.
Honestly thought a drill bit was just a drill bit but these are different. The center point keeps it steady, no skating around. Used them on some oak and no burning or rough edges.
Perform exactly as they should, and the quality is apparent from the first use. The brad point tip makes positioning effortless, and I’ve had no issues with tear-out, even in softer woods like pine. They cut smoothly and efficiently. It’s a reliable set that I find myself reaching for often. Well worth having in the shop.
Got these along with some other tools and they been great. Sharp right outta the box, no need to push hard to get em to cut. If you do any woodworking these are worth it.
These brad point bits make a big difference when drilling into wood, especially when accuracy is important. The tips grab the surface right away, preventing any slipping, and the edges cut neatly. I’ve used them on both soft and hardwoods with consistently good results. They also seem to stay sharp longer than expected, which is always a plus. A great tool to have in the shop for clean, precise drilling.
