Regulation Cornhole Board Set
Build a heavy-duty, tournament-quality set of two boards that won't bounce.
Step-by-Step Plan
- 1 Cut the 2x4 side frames to 48 inches long and the end frames to 21 inches long.
- 2 Assemble the rectangular base frames by driving 2-1/2" exterior deck screws through the outside of the 48" side frames into the ends of the 21" front and back pieces.
- 3 Cut the 3/4" plywood tops to exactly 24" x 48" so they sit perfectly flush with the outer edges of your assembled 2x4 frames.
- 4 Apply wood glue continuously along the top edge of the 2x4 frames, then align the plywood panels on top and secure them using 1-5/8" trim screws driven every 8 inches around the perimeter.
- 5 Mark the center of the target hole exactly 9 inches down from the top edge and 12 inches in from either side.
- 6 Drill a pilot hole at your mark, then use a 6-inch hole saw or a jigsaw to carefully cut out the target hole in both boards.
- 7 Cut four 2x4 legs to 11-1/2 inches long. Mark a center point 1-3/4" down from the top edge of each leg, use a compass to draw a half-circle, and cut along the line with a jigsaw to create a rounded top that won't bind when folded.
- 8 Clamp each leg flat inside the frame, pushed tightly against the back corner 2x4. Drill a 3/8" hole entirely through the frame and leg, then secure using a 4" carriage bolt, two washers (one between the wood pieces, one on the outside), and a wing nut.
- 9 Deploy the legs and place the board on a flat table. Prop the back of the board up until the very top edge of the plywood is exactly 12 inches off the table surface, then scribe a horizontal line across the bottom of the legs and trim off the excess angle.
- 10 Fill all screw holes with wood putty, sand all edges and surfaces smooth with 120-grit then 220-grit sandpaper, and apply three coats of high-gloss polyurethane or outdoor enamel paint for a slick, weather-resistant finish.
