How To Create A Wooden Phone Stand
These days, it seems like everyone has a phone glued to their hand, myself included. Whether we're watching videos, video calling friends, or just scrolling endlessly, they're always by our side.
Now, if you're anything like me, you've probably found yourself wishing for a better way to prop up your phone, especially when you're binge-watching your favorite shows or following along with a recipe in the kitchen. That's where a wooden phone stand comes in handy. It's a simple yet thoughtful solution that can make life a little bit easier.
This project is pretty easy to make, whether for yourself or as a thoughtful gift to a friend. So, grab your tools, put on some relaxing music, and let’s make a phone stand.

Process
Step 1
Begin by cutting out all the necessary pieces for the phone stand. Then, sand each piece with 80 and 150-grit sandpaper to achieve a smooth surface.
Step 2
Utilize a Jig Saw or Scroll Saw along with a chisel to create the desired shape for the phone stand.
Pro Tip: If you find that your pieces don’t fit together, don’t fret. You can use a flat file to refine the pieces for a snug fit.
Step 3
Round the top and bottom edges of the phone stand for a more polished appearance. Sand all surfaces with 220-grit sandpaper to refine the finish.
Step 4
Optionally, apply stain to enhance the appearance of the phone stand. Then, varnish it with polyurethane at least twice for protection. After applying the first layer of varnish, sand it lightly with 320-grit sandpaper for a smoother finish.
(And hey, I also made a guide to get polyurethane off your hands, in case you need it.)
After that, you’re ready to assemble the pieces! If you find that the fit is a little loose, you can apply a dot of glue as you’re putting the pieces together.
Final Thoughts
On the whole, this phone stand is a neat little project you can do when you want something easy. It's one of those simple projects for beginners that any newbie can make. While the challenge may lie in achieving the perfect snug fit, a few adjustments - like the ones I made with a flat file - can easily remedy any issues. On the other hand, if the fit is a bit loose, a dot of glue can secure everything in place.
Despite its simplicity, this project leaves plenty of room for creativity, especially if you're making it as a gift. Consider personalizing it with a name or a meaningful design to add an extra special touch. So, whether you're making this phone stand for yourself or someone else, just have fun with it.
