Holdfasts are one of the typical ways of holding workpieces to the workbench. Used in conjunction with holes in the workbench top, they could hold a wide variety of different types of pieces. Sawinery's Bench Dog Toggle Holdfast is an upgrade to the old-fashioned bench dog, adding an over-center toggle clamp, which greatly increases the holding power.

I work out of a one-car garage, and space is tight. I don’t have room for big vises or complicated clamping setups, so I needed something compact, strong, and easy to use. This holdfast fits the bill perfectly. I mostly build DIY furniture and home projects, and this has made assembly way easier. What I love most is how fast it is to use—I don’t have to mess with knobs, screws, or extra clamps. Just drop it in, toggle the lock, and get to work.
These are extremely sturdy. Provides a secure clamp and I didn't worry about that. I probably need 3 or 4 of these max for my workshop.
I watched Rich use this in a demo, and I thought well maybe it’s actually worth it. And ya it absolutely is. My old holdfasts feel like a joke compared to this.
My buddy told me to ditch my old holdfasts and get these instead. I wasn’t convinced at first tbh. I was using them on a hand-planing project nd I get it now. Way faster, way easier, no slipping.
GREAT HOLDFASTS!! If you hate fumbling with F-clamps just to hold something in place for a quick chisel cut, get these.
I’ll admit, my workbench isn’t fancy. It’s a homemade plywood-and-2x4 setup with dog holes I drilled myself. I wasn’t sure if this holdfast would work on my less-than-perfectly-smooth bench top, but it works just fine.
I use it mainly for cutting and assembling cabinet doors, and I love that I can quickly secure and release pieces without slowing down my workflow. It grips just as well on rough MDF as it does on smooth hardwood.
I saw these in a Facebook group and wasn’t sure if they were really better than regular bench dogs. Welp believe me they are
Perfect for weird-shaped projects. I was able to work on my project more efficiently than I was doing before.
I compared like five different brands before finally settling on these. Works awesome.
I was always a little nervous when routing small pieces bc they tend to move even with clamps, and that’s an accident waiting to happen. This holdfast solved that problem for me.
I was routing edge profiles on some maple drawer fronts, and this thing held them rock solid. Even when making deep passes with a ½” roundover bit, there was zero movement. My hands were completely clear of the spinning bit, and I felt a lot more in control of my cuts.
