Why do I need an adapter for diamond plates?

Diamond plates are usually thinner than water stones. The adapter raises the plate to a better working height so your chisel or plane blade can reach the sharpening surface more comfortably.

What size diamond plates can I use?

Use diamond plates within SharpMate’s accepted range: about 160–220mm long and no more than 75mm wide. The adapter is especially recommended for 8" long, double-sided diamond plates.

Can I use double-sided diamond plates?

Yes. This adapter is especially useful for double-sided diamond plates because you do not have to permanently mount the plate to a wood block just to add height.

How does the adapter hold the diamond plate in place?

The two aluminum pieces nest together on the SharpMate stage. Place the diamond plate on top, then adjust the movable stone clamp to help hold both the adapter and diamond plate in place.

Do thinner diamond plates still work?

Some thinner plates may work, but thicker double-sided plates around 0.3" thick are recommended. Very thin plates may still sit too low for shorter blades at shallower angles.
