The Sawinery Japanese Chisel Adapter helps you use your SharpMate with Japanese-style chisels by giving them the support and positioning they need for steadier sharpening. It’s designed to accommodate their shorter blade length and distinctive socket connection to the handle, making it easier to bring these favorite hand tools into your regular sharpening routine.

Important: This adapter requires SharpMate Plus or the SharpMate Upgrade Kit. If you have the standard SharpMate or if this is your first adapter purchase, choose the bundle with the Upgrade Kit. If you already have SharpMate Plus or another adapter bundle, choose Adapter Kit Only.

How do I install the Japanese Chisel Adapter?

Remove the blade mount clamping bar, then install the Japanese Chisel Adapter with the open side facing down. In this position, the flat side faces up on the sharpening jig.

How to Use the Japanese Chisel Adapter

  • STEP 1: Prepare Your SharpMate

    If you have the standard SharpMate, install the Upgrade Kit first. If you have SharpMate Plus, simply remove the blade clamping bar.

  • STEP 2: Install the Japanese Chisel Adapter

    Place the adapter with the open side facing down and the flat side facing up on the sharpening jig.

  • STEP 3: Add Your Japanese Chisel

    Once the adapter is in place, insert your Japanese chisel and sharpen with the same steady SharpMate motion.
