The SharpMate Upgrade Kit lets you update your SharpMate with the improved blade clamp system used on the newer SharpMate setup.

This upgraded clamp gives you more flexibility when sharpening wider plane blades, with support for blades up to 2 3/8" wide. It also improves blade alignment by moving the chisel alignment notch to the upper clamp bar, giving you an easier, more positive reference when setting up your edge.

It’s also the key upgrade for expanding your SharpMate with compatible adapters, including adapters for short chisels, small blades, and Japanese chisels.

Do I need this if I have SharpMate Plus?

No. SharpMate Plus already includes the upgraded blade clamp system, so you do not need this kit.

Do I need a wider stone for wider plane blades?

If you plan to sharpen plane blades wider than 1 7/8", we recommend using Sawinery’s 75mm wide stone for better blade support.

How do I install the Upgrade Kit?

Remove the existing thumbscrews, rubber washers, and blade holder parts from your SharpMate. Install the upgraded Blade Holder Baseplate in the same position, making sure the notched side with the white alignment lines faces up and the baseplate angles toward the clamp end.

Then reinstall the screws, thumbscrews, rubber washers, and upgraded clamp bar.

Helpful Setup Note: When installing the upgraded Blade Holder Baseplate, it may sit loosely until tightened. This is normal. Make sure the notched side with the white alignment lines faces up, and that the baseplate angles toward the clamp end of the SharpMate.
