SharpMate Short Chisel Adapter Kit

The Sawinery Short Chisel Adapter Kit lets you use your SharpMate with shorter chisels that need a little extra support in the clamp.

Designed for chisels with blades shorter than 3 ½”, this adapter kit accommodates chisels with a “tang” style, where the blade tang extends into the handle, and the “socket” style, where the handle end of the blade is bell shaped with an opening for the end of the handle to fit into.

Important: This adapter requires SharpMate Plus or the SharpMate Upgrade Kit. If you have the standard SharpMate or if this is your first adapter purchase, choose the bundle with the Upgrade Kit. If you already have SharpMate Plus or another adapter bundle, choose Adapter Kit Only.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need the Short Chisel Adapter Kit?

You may need this adapter if your chisel is too short to work properly in the standard SharpMate setup.

As a general guide, the standard SharpMate blade clamp works for most chisels with a usable blade length of 3 1/2" or longer. If your chisel is shorter than that, it may not reach the stone properly when sharpening at a 25° angle.

When measuring, do not measure all the way to the handle. Measure from the cutting edge to the point where the blade or tang becomes too wide to fit securely in the SharpMate blade clamp.

What does the Short Chisel Adapter Kit do?

The Short Chisel Adapter Kit gives shorter chisels the extra support they need in the SharpMate clamp, allowing them to sit properly for sharpening.

It was designed specifically for chisels that are too short to reach the sharpening stone in the regular SharpMate setup.

Do I need the Upgrade Kit to use this adapter?

Yes. If you have the standard SharpMate and this is your first adapter purchase, choose the option that includes the SharpMate Upgrade Kit.

The Short Chisel Adapter will not work with the regular SharpMate blade clamp.

If you already purchased another SharpMate adapter bundle that included the Upgrade Kit, you can choose the Adapter Only option.

Which purchase option should I choose?

Choose “I have the SharpMate” if you have the standard SharpMate and have not purchased a SharpMate adapter before. This option includes the required Upgrade Kit plus the Short Chisel Adapter Kit.

Choose “I have the Upgrade Kit already” if you already bought another SharpMate adapter bundle and already have the upgraded blade clamp. This option includes the Short Chisel Adapter Kit only.

What kind of short chisels does this work with?

The kit is designed for short chisels with different tang shapes. It includes two clamping bar options so you can choose the one that fits your chisel best.

Use the flat clamping bar for short chisels with a narrower tang. Use the angled clamping bar for chisels with a more tapered tang.
