Using an inadequate scroll saw can make even the simplest woodworking projects challenging. However, after hearing numerous positive WEN LL2156 reviews regarding its innovative design and features, I finally decided to put it to the test.

Here, I will determine if this tool could enhance the efficiency of your cutting tasks or if it’s a waste of your hard-earned money.

What I Like

What I Don't Like

Design and Build Quality

The WEN LL2156 21 has a sturdy and durable build with heavy-duty steel construction. Its steel table with an extra-large dual bevel provides stability for larger projects.

The saw is also packaged in a sleek and modern design. I’ve always been a fan of the WEN color palette, and this saw’s black and orange scheme didn’t disappoint.

The dual side panels flip open for a tool-free blade changing, and the upper arm can be locked in the raised position for easy interior cuts. The adjustable air pump, dust port, and hold-down clamp material help to keep the work area clean and secure.

WEN LL2156 Features

List of Specifications

Motor Power

The WEN LL2156 is equipped with a powerful motor that has a rating of 1.6 amps, providing ample power to cut through a variety of materials.

I’ve run it through its paces, cutting wood up to 2 inches thick, and let me tell you, it’s up for the challenge. That’s mostly due to the saw’s aggressive 3/4-inch stroke. This stroke is forceful and effective at making cuts quickly and cleanly to tackle challenging projects with ease.

Blade Size and Quality

It comes with two 5-inch pinless blades – one with 15 teeth per inch and the other with 18 teeth per inch. These blades are made of high-quality steel, which provides durability and precision for detailed cuts in any scroll saw project

Blade Change

With the WEN LL2156, changing blades becomes a hassle-free and tool-less process. This saw features dual side panels that conveniently flip open, allowing effortless access to the blade holders.

The saw comes with two 5-inch pinless blades that can be quickly swapped out using the tension release lever to adjust the blade tension as needed. The pinless design of the blades also makes them easy to install and remove without needing additional tools.

Variable Speed

It has a motor with adjustable cutting speed, ranging from 550 to 1600 strokes per minute.

This feature is important for precision cutting, as different materials and thicknesses require different speeds. I’ve been adjusting speeds simply by turning a knob on the saw, and it’s made a noticeable difference in the quality of my cuts.

Tension Release Lever

The WEN LL2156 has a tension release lever that allows users to adjust blade tension easily and quickly. This lever is located near the blade holders and doesn’t require any additional tools to use.

I can’t emphasize enough how crucial proper blade tension is for making clean, precise cuts. This lever lets you fine-tune the blade tension to match whatever material and thickness you’re working with, taking the guesswork out of the equation.

Cutting Angles

It has a large steel table that can be tilted up to 30 degrees to the right and 45 degrees to the left for angled cuts. The wide range of cutting angles enables precise and accurate cuts at different angles.

Cutting Performance

Let’s dive into the cutting performance of the WEN LL2156. With its variable speed 1.6-amp motor, this saw is no slouch. It takes on materials up to 2 inches thick and comes out on top every time.

The saw also has an adjustable material hold-down clamp [1] and upper arm lock for easy interior cuts and workpiece adjustments.

Vibration and Noise

The WEN LL2156 is designed to minimize vibration and noise during use. First off, the parallel-arm design does a commendable job of minimizing vibration. I’ve worked with saws that felt like they were shaking themselves apart, but that’s not the case here.

That said, there’s a bit of noise coming from the upper arm area that’s hard to ignore. If you’re sensitive to noise, you might want to keep this in mind.

Dust Collection

It has a dust port and an adjustable air pump that work together to clear sawdust from the work area. The 1-1/2-inch dust port can be connected to a vacuum or dust collector to collect sawdust as it is produced.

Review Conclusion: WEN LL2156

In my WEN LL2156 review, I found that it’s a reliable scroll saw for a variety of tasks. Its parallel-arm design, sturdy steel construction, and adaptable features contribute to its ease of use and add to its convenience and functionality.
