Features of DW745 vs DWE7480

Size and Weight

The two table saws are not as different as you might think as they are similar in terms of weight and size. The DWE7480 model is only slightly larger and heavier than the DW745 model.

The dimensions and weight of the DW745 are 22.72 x 29.21 x 16.73 inches rpm and weight 45 pounds, respectively. The DWE7480 model has dimensions of 25.75 x 26.5 x 13.88 inches, and a weight of 48 lbs. They are some of the top-performing portable table saws available today, as well.

Since the DW745 is lighter than its newer version, it is easier for users to carry from one job site to another, depending on the professional requirements.

The larger size of the DWE7480 saw makes it heavier and difficult to store, but this feature adds more stability to your projects. Although, a separate wider stand might still be required.

Winner: DW745

DW745 vs DWE7480 Power

When comparing the DWE7480 vs DW745 in terms of power, the difference is not significant.

Since both of them use a 15 amp motor power, you would think that they have the same RPM. However, because of the inner construction of the two portable table saws, the DWE7480 can spin the 10-inch carbide blade up to 4,800 RPM. The DW745 provides 3,850 RPM motor power, which is still good for accurate cuts. Higher RPM  means better finish cut

DeWalt DW745

When it comes to high-powered table saws, I’d personally recommend the DWE7480 model. Having worked with a variety of tools over the years, this one stands out for many professionals and hobbyists, myself included. Its portability combined with a robust 15 amp motor delivering a max speed of 3,850 rpm is impressive. From my experience, the DWE7480 consistently produces cleaner cuts, even with harder wood. It also slices through thick hardwood chunks both effectively and swiftly.

One thing to note, though: the DWE7480 is a little louder by using 15 amp , so you might need ear protection while using this table saw.

Winner: DWE7480

Performance of DW745 vs DWE7480

Both table saws are good performing portable table saws but the DWE7480 model boasts several feature that enhance its performance. The no load speed of up to 4,800 RPM and the rip capacity of 24 inches are superior to the DW745 table saw, which provides 3,850 RPM. It is interesting to note that both saws use the same 15 amp motor.

When it comes to the blade, both models use a 10-inch 24-tooth carbides blade that provide 20 inches rip to cut larger shelved wood, and it with the same adjustability feature. DWE7480 and DW745 have a maximum cut depth of 3-1/8 inches at 90 degrees and 2-1/4 inches at 45 degrees. The rack and pinion increases the fence system stability.

An important thing to keep in mind is the fact that this DeWalt portable table saw does not function with a dado blade.

Another advantage I’ve found with the DeWALT DWE7480 is its proficiency in making deeper and smoother cuts. With its 10-inch blade and a 4800 rpm, it offers superior precision and accuracy. Furthermore, its coated surface, which I’ve personally observed, reduces friction, making the cutting process even smoother.

Featuring a series of improvements and additions, the DWE7480 model has a slightly better overall performance, being the favorite pick for those aiming for heavy-duty cutting of thicker pieces of hardwood [1].

Winner: DWE7480

Ease of Use

Both models have been meticulously designed to provide users with a seamless and user-friendly experience. The DW745 is a popular choice among DIY enthusiasts for its renowned versatility, while the DWE7480 excels in cutting thicker pieces of wood, offering enhanced performance in that regard.

They both feature a high-quality site-pro modular guarding system that allows a safe and efficient setup of applications. They have excellent capacity across the board, with rip capacity 20 inches on the right side of the blade and 12 inches on left. This site-pro modular guarding system allows tool-free adjustments, depending on the project you work on

Portable and configured for high rip capacity, these table saws can be used by beginners and professionals alike. Their cut depth allows you to use them for many different projects although you might need to purchase an additional blade, fit for the project you work on.

DeWalt DWE7480 10 in. Compact Job Table Saw

However, our team nominates the DWE7480 model as the winner of the category due to its improved quality that make it easier to use and more efficient. Professional workers seem to agree as well.

Although both use a 15 amp motor, the DWE7480 benefits from an improved version of this motor, hence it provides higher RPM compared to its predecessor. It is far easier to cut thicker pieces of hardwood.

Another feature that qualifies DWE7480 as the winner of this category is its higher rip capacity that allows users to easily extend the fence for accurate cutting.

To summarize, although both table saws have similar functions and features, DWE7480 wins the match due to the higher rip capacity and no-load speed that make it perfect even for beginners.

DW745 vs DWE7480 Accessories

The DWE745 and DWS7480 both have similar accessories. Dust collection port, telescoping fence rails, or adjustable rear feet are some of the common features of these DeWalt saws.

DeWalt DW745 16 in. Rip Capacity

Both DeWalt table saws come with a miter gauge that provides additional flexibility when cutting, an anti-kickback mechanism, and a metal roll cage for extra durability.

The blade guard included in the saws’ design is made of high-quality plastic thus not compromising the visibility. And this is a great security feature for a table saw. Dw745 and Dwe7480 are worthwhile table saws.

A drawback of the DW745 portable table saw would be the lack of a stand. It has a tool-less blade guard. The telescopic rack and pinion fence system is available on both. Apart from that, both models require additional accessories, depending on the projects you are working on. You might need to purchase additional blade separately.

Having worked extensively with both models, I’ve observed that they come with similar accessories. So, when comparing the DeWalt DW745 and DWE7480, it’s hard to declare a clear winner. Whichever you choose, you’re making a sound investment.

Additional Features

Both models come with additional feature such as a push stick, a blade guard, and a 10-inch 24-tooth carbide blade. The On-Board Accessory Storage of these chainsaws allows you to safely store and organize all accessories including the blade guard and the push stick. Like the DW745, the DWE7480 also comes with a metal roll cage for extra durability and protection.

The dust collection system is also very similar, allowing you to collect debris with a bag or vacuum, via a 2 inches aluminum hose dust port.

Both models come with a miter gauge that allows the saws to level from 0 to 45 degrees or you can adjust it to maximum 90 degrees with cutting depth of 3-1/8 inches , thus achieving increased flexibility for a wide range of miter cuts. Dw745 and Dwe7480 are excellent table saws and similar machines.

However, in my hands-on experience, I noticed a distinct difference. The DWE7480 model boasts a coated surface, which lets me slide wood pieces with ease. Given this advantage, I’m inclined to declare the DWE7480 as the superior choice in this category.

Winner: DWE7480

DW745 vs DWE7480 Price

Even though both of them are competitively priced, the former wins in the DeWalt DW745 vs DWE7480 comparison. Almost every marketplace will usually sell it for less than what they usually sell the DWE7480, one of the reasons being that it is its predecessor.

It is smaller, its motor won’t work quite as hard, and it won’t be as loud as the latter, making it a more budget version, preferred by hobbyists. The professionals will usually opt for DWE7480, even if its price is a bit higher.

DeWalt DW745-Rip Capacity

However, based on the price tag criteria for a table saw, I recommend the DW745 model, especially if you are on a budget. Nevertheless, keep in mind that both models will require additional accessories and different blade sizes.

Winner: DW745

Warranty

The DW745 saw wins here as well, and the difference is significant. The DW745 having a warranty 3-year limited offers (this includes any manufacturer defects or problems with a replacement of the piece or a repair) and an additional year of service for maintenance or any repairs. It also comes with a 90-day money-back guarantee. That’s a lot of assurance for the more affordable table saw of the two, and both having 3 year limited warranty and free service.

On the other hand, the DWE7480 only has a warranty 3-year limited to offer for its buyers. It’s a nice perk, but it is not at the same level of protection in comparison to the DW745.

The difference between the DWE7480 and DW745 is that the latest model comes with improved features. DeWalt DWE7480 boasts a higher no load speed, and larger rip capacity. A little heavier compared to the DW745 saw, this model is compact and easy to store and transport.

The Dewalt DWE745 is known to have a good telescoping fence rail design. This will allow the rails to be adjusted in such a way that it will be easy for the blade to rip full sheets of materials.
